The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu scene is quickly growing in Chiangmai and the surrounding areas. Until recently, Chiangmai was mainly a place for Muay Thai but that is changing. There are a number of reasons why. Chiangmai is surrounded by mountains, has great weather most of the year, and is oriented around sports and fitness. Chiangmai is also a laid back city with a friendly vibe that is attractive to many people that train BJJ. Some of these people are natives to Chiangmai and quite a few are visitors, either digital nomads or wandering athletes that train BJJ while traveling.
More and more, there are little BJJ gyms opening up in small towns in the areas surrounding Chiangmai. Most of the members of these BJJ gyms are Thai kids. There is even a growing organization called the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation of Thailand that regularly hosts BJJ competitions for both kids and adult. This is great news for the future of BJJ in Chiangmai. There are currently four gyms where you can practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the city of Chiangmai. Pure Grappling is the newest, has the nicest facilities and the best location. We also have a talented young BJJ Black belt and an experienced Brown belt as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructors. So the future is bright for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Chiangmai. If you have ever thought about training BJJ, come by Pure Grappling and give it a try!
